Watch: Covid-iot of the week gets hostile after he was told to wear a mask in Clicks

If we were running a “COVID-iot of the week” competition, this guy would be in a league of his own. An irate Clicks customer flew off the handle this week, when he was told to put a mask on in the store. Enraged by the directive, he went off on a tirade that’s set to make him an unwitting viral star.

WHAT THE LAW SAYS ABOUT WEARING A MASK IN PUBLIC
Reaching for his phone, the confrontational shopper repeatedly asserts that he can walk around the store without his mask on. This, despite the government laws clearly stating that face coverings are a mandatory requirement in these public spaces. He also claims that a ‘court case’ means the rules don’t apply anymore.

His reference to the Liberty Fighters Network’s win against the government in June omits the key detail that the case is actually subject to an appeal, and all current Level 3 regulations – including the guidelines on wearing masks – remain in place. The customer told a fellow citizen to “f***-off”, before he was asked to leave.

CLICKS RESPONSE TO FACE-COVERING FIASCO
Clicks have since issued a statement about the matter via their Twitter account. They confirmed that they removed the male from the store, and further explained what their policy on mask-wearing includes:

“Wearing a face mask is a mandatory safety requirement by law as well as our company policy. The safety of all customers and staff is our top priority, however if situations arise whereby masks are removed within the store, we try to manage it as effectively and as soon as possible.”

“The customer was asked to leave by our store manager, which he did. We thank all other customers who adhere to these health and safety requirements for the protection of our staff and customers alike.”
