Voter registration will take place on 18 and 19 September. The Independent Electoral Commission says it’s an opportunity for new voters to register and for existing voters to update their details.
The IEC are also set to reopen the candidate list for the 2021 municipal elections. The final date for elections is still under consideration by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

In July, former deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke completed his report advising the IEC not to hold elections this year due to COVID-19, saying they would not be free and fair.
