Update: Kempton Park shooting

Gauteng: At 10H17 Monday morning Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting on Director Road in Kempton Park.

Reports from the scene indicate that an armed response officer was fired upon while chasing suspects in his vehicle.

It is alleged by those on the scene that the officer was in persuit of a hijacked vehicle.

The vehicle was struck multiple times.

Fortunately the security officer, an adult male managed to escape the hail of bullets unscathed.

Details subject to change as more information becomes available.

Update: While in persuit of the stolen truck another adult male believed to be an armed response officer was fired upon by the hijackers as they were trying to escape.

The officer sustained a gunshot wound to his lower torso and was treated on scene by an Advanced life support paramedic.

Due to the nature of his injuries the Netcare 2 specialised helicopter ambulance was called to the scene to airlift him to a specialist facility for further treatment.
