The Communication Workers Union (CWU)is calling for the SABC board to be removed. It says the embattled public broadcaster should be placed under administration.
The SABC has been struggling to stay afloat and wants to retrench at least 300 employees.
The CWU and Bemawu have served a notice to strike from tomorrow.
Or demands, first, is to stop the turn-around strategy in total, so it’s not only about retrenchments,” says CWU’s Aubrey Tshabalala.
“We are demanding that the structure that SABC is bringing about, of making a combo of radios which takes us back to Bantustans, which is going to marginalise some indigenous language,” he says.
Tshabalala goes on to say that they want the board to be removed and that the public broadcaster be put under administration.
