COVID-19: Tygerberg Hospital health care workers test positive

About 150 health care workers have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town. Authorities say those affected came from various parts of the hospital. Earlier this week, a worker at the Trauma and Emergency Department became the second health care worker at the hospital to die after contracting COVID-19.

The Groote Schuur Hospital in the province has seven wards with over 120 COVID-19 patients. While the Mitchells Plain Hospital is said to have reached its capacity.

South Africa’s 27 new deaths on Wednesday came from the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, data released by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize shows. The Western Cape had 23 deaths, while the remaining four came from the Eastern Cape. In addition, almost eight out of every 10 new infections came from the Western Cape as it recorded 623 of the 803 new infections in the country. Read more
