Trymore Bande: Even secular artistes are preachers too

Trymore Bande: Even secular artistes are preachers too. The 34-year-old said he was ready to engage artistes in other genres. To show his love and application of secular musicians perceived to be ‘unholy’ in some circles, Bande has featured most of them in projects he recorded in recent weeks.

Praise and worship singer Trymore Bande reckons collaborations between secular and gospel musicians have been the missing link over the years. Bande has recorded catchy singles such as Ngaarumbidzwe featuring Tocky Vibes and Kamwe Kahupenyu alongside Tocky Vibes on extended lockdown.

Two more singles – Gwenzi Remoto and Jehovha Murape – were also recorded on lockdown where he sought for the help of artistes perceived to be secular musicians. “I’m one artiste who now prefers doing collaborations with artistes perceived to be secular musicians because they are also preachers in their own right.

“I have realised that engaging them (secular musicians) will help me a lot to come up with powerful messages. “These guys (secular) perceived to be singing about ungodly things are also God’s emissaries.

“I learnt and shared a lot with Andy Muridzo and Tocky when I roped them and I really respect them for their cooperation which has seen us coming with powerful compositions,” he said.

Bande said some of the artistes perceived to be singing secular music were changing people’s lives with each passing day. “There are people whose lives have changing after listening to secular musicians who are the most real musicians I have ever met in my life.

“In music, we need each other and I will continue working with them on lockdown,” he said. Asked how he was keeping himself busy on lockdown, Bande said: “I am a wheat grower based in Karoi where I have been spending most of my time with my family.

“I have also grown sugar beans and I really enjoy it because it’s viable. “Prior to the lockdown, I was also into buying and selling of designer suits but I have since turned to farming,” he said.

Musically, Bande, who rose to prominence as Pastor Charles Charamba’s ‘mimic’ owing similarities in their voices, recorded eight albums to his name. These comprise Old & New Testament recorded in 2005, The Scripture (2007), Discover to Recover (2010), Zvakagara Zvakaro (2013), ZvaMwari (2014) Praise & Testament in Songs (2017 among others.

He was set to launch his ninth album on April 14 titled Nyasha Panyasha but he could not because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
