SA-born comedian and host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah was slammed after a video clip of him comparing EFF leader Julius Malema to US President Donald Trump went viral
Trevor weighed in on the state of politics in SA on Friday afternoon, just 24 hours before the results of the 2019 national elections were announced.
In a video clip which was initially shared on The Daily Show’s Twitter page, Trevor called Julius an “anti-establishment politician”. Trevor also mocked Julius for the way that he treats the media and for making comments about “genocide”.
“If you think Trump is bad, wait until you see how Julius treats the press.
“Julius Malema talks about genocide like he’s remodelling his kitchen. If you think Trump is bad, meet South Africa’s anti-establishment politician,” he said.
Even though the clip has since been taken down from The Daily Show’s official Twitter page, recordings of it have been circulating on the social media platform since Friday.

Trevor’s comments split Twitter users and resulted in him topping the trends list throughout the weekend.
Some tweeps accused Trevor of using his international platform as propaganda to bring down African leaders, while others felt that he had done nothing wrong
Trevor is yet to comment on the backlash.
Trevor has been making jokes about Julius Malema for years. That's not the issue. The issue is, he's propagating the unfounded narrative that white genocide is a thing in South Africa. This is reckless and dangerous. #TrevorNoah
