A special task team of Gauteng and Free State police and crime intelligence is investigating the prison escape of murderer and rapist Thabo Bester.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says they are also probing who the person found burnt in Bester’s cell was.
It was previously thought the body was Bester’s.
The Department of Correctional Services says Bester escaped from custody in May last year.
The department says there will be serious consequences for those found to have been involved in his escape.
