With another domestic season filed away, KickOff.com looks at 10 PSL players that need a career-saving move in the new campaign.
Ayanda Nkosi (Orlando Pirates)
With Justin Shonga and Augustine Mulenga in the side, Nkosi has little chance of ever breaking into the Pirates starting line-up. The former Free State Stars man made just five appearances and did not find the back of the net.
Lucky Mohomi (Mamelodi Sundowns)
Joined Sundowns from Ea Lla Koto in 2016/17 and had a fairly good season, featuring a lot more when Tiyani Mabunda was not available through injury. But the signing of Oupa Manyisa at the start of the past season saw him watching a lot of matches from the stands. After making just two appearances, a loan move could help revive his career.
Keagan Buchanan (Kaizer Chiefs)
The midfielder looks set to leave Amakhosi after a frustrating two campaigns at Naturena. He signed for Chiefs while carrying an injury before the start of the 2016/17 campaign and struggled to break in when he recovered. The 26-year-old made just three appearances during the past season.
Ben Motshwari (Bidvest Wits)
He played a key role in Wits’ title-winning campaign, but was reduced to watching a lot of matches from the bench or the stands in the past season. He played just 11 times as Wits finished outside the top eight.
Phumlani Ntshangase (Bidvest Wits)
Ntshangase, who has previously been linked with Sundowns and Pirates, is said to be willing to make a move to resurrect his career. Ntshangase could not get ahead of the likes of Thabang Monare, Edwin Gyimah and Daylon Claasen in the Clever Boys’ midfield. He made 16 appearances in all competitions.
Phetso Maphanga (Orlando Pirates)
Joined the Buccaneers halfway through the past season, having been a regular at Chippa, and is now a bench warmer. Maphanga is a talented left-footed player who can play in any position on the left flank. With the news that Paseka Mako will join Pirates, Maphanga’s prospects have dimmed further at Mayfair.
Asavela Mbekile (Mamelodi Sundowns)
His time at Sundowns is up and it’s now time for him to look for a new home. Mbekile has won domestic and continental titles and he is said to be ready to leave. The likes of Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United have previously shown an interest in the former Moroka Swallows midfielder.
Tshepo Gumede (Cape Town City)
He has an option in his contract, but it’s unclear if City will exercise it. Gumede struggled to get into the starting line-up ahead of Taariq Fielies. Reuniting with AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson could help save his career.
Mogakolodi Ngele (Mamelodi Sundowns)
Ngele will be going back to Sundowns after spending the second half of the past season with Tshwane rivals SuperSport United. He is unlikely to get any action at Sundowns, so it’s best they start looking for a club for him now.
Khotso Malope (Kaizer Chiefs)
Malope returned to Chiefs from a successful loan spell with now-defunct Thanda Royal Zulu but hardly got any action. He made just five first-team appearances. A loan move could be good for the 23-year-old.
