Telkom to challenge Icasa in court over spectrum allocation

Africa’s largest integrated communications company, Telkom is proceeding with its court application against communications regulator Icasa.

The mobile operator wants to ensure that the licensing of the spectrum promotes effective competition in the mobile market.
The case is scheduled for hearing in the high court in early April.

This is despite Telkom being able to secure sub 1 GHz in the spectrum auction carried out in mid-March.

The company says it was constrained in its ability to acquire the amount of spectrum it needed to compete effectively.
