The temporary agreement reached between e-hailing drivers and the minibus taxi industry in Soweto is not in the best interests of passengers.
That’s according to Goodhope Ledwaba, founder of a South African e-hailing app, Shuma Drive.
The agreement will see e-hailing drivers only be allowed to drop off and pick up passengers outside the malls unless they are transporting elderly or disabled passengers.
But Ledwaba says this will put passengers at risk, especially the elderly.
“So it’s not a solution, you’re putting more risk on our passengers, the elderly. Now they’re gonna become victims of being robbed while they’re waiting for e-hailing cars to pick them up,” he said.
“”We want to protect not only the drivers, but also the passengers.”
