Domestic flights cleared for take-off under Level 3 of the lockdown

Business travellers can once again take to the skies under Level 3 of the lockdown. Domestic flights have been given the all-clear and are being allowed to fly between OR Tambo, King Shaka, Cape Town and Lanseria International Airports. Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said strict restrictions will guide the number of flights per day based on the reason for travel.

The minister said the resumption of domestic flights will be rolled out in three phases. Planes are allowed to be filled to 100 percent capacity because they’re using High-Efficiency Particulate Air filters.

OR Tambo International Airport General Manager Bongiwe Pityi-Vokwana said it’s important for passengers to know that “we are now in a new normal”.

They need to set aside two hours before they get on their flight,” she said. This is to ensure that they are able to access the airport without any challenges.
