Suspect electrocuted while trying to flee angry mob

Suspect electrocuted while trying to flee angry mob. The man was badly burnt and has been transported to the Tambo Memorial Hospital in a critical condition.

“We can confirm that at around 8.30am, a man was electrocuted,” said Lillian Mofokeng, senior manager of marketing and communication for Gauteng Metrorail, Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa.

A strange scene unfolded at the Webber Station last Monday when a man was electrocuted and found dangling from the overhead cables below the station bridge, Germiston City News reports.

“When Metrorail Protection Services officials arrived on scene they found emergency medical services (EMS) personnel and local firefighters at the station bridge that crosses from the south to the north of Lambton. The man was hanging from the overhead cables upside down.

“Power to the cables was switched off so that the man could be recused. “EMS performed CPR on him and made arrangement to transport him to a hospital as his condition was deteriorating.” The man was badly burnt from the electrocution and was transported to the Tambo Memorial Hospital, in a critical condition.

It is not clear at this stage what had happened or how the man had been electrocuted. “It is alleged the man was running from community members who were chasing him for a crime he had allegedly committed,” said Mofokeng.

“However, none of the bystanders confirmed this or wanted to shed more light on the incident.” The scene was cleared and power restored to the area before noon.
