ActionSA to write to US consulate on allegations SA supplied weapons to Russia

ActionSA said it will be writing to the United States consulate to request it to share any information it has relating to allegations that the South African government supplied weapons to Russia for its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

In a media briefing on Thursday in Pretoria, the US ambassador to South Africa Reuben Brigety claimed that a Russian cargo ship left the Simon’s Town navy base camp in Cape Town last December with arms on board.

In Parliament on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the allegations would be looked into.

ActionSA spokesperson Sam Mgobhozi said this matter must be resolved as a matter of urgency.

“The allegations by US ambassador that South Africa supplied weapons to Russia in December 2022 adds credence to ActionSA’s belief that Ramaphosa’s government never had a non-aligned approach to the Ukraine and Russian war, and in fact actively supports President Putin’s unjust war.”
