UKZN obtain court interdict stopping student protests

The University of KwaZulu-Natal has obtained a court interdict, stopping students from protesting at the institution. Students have been demonstrating for the past two weeks.

They are calling on the institution to allow them to register without clearing historical debt.

The university said the interdict is to ensure the academic programme resumes on Monday.

The institution has also asked higher education minister Blade Nzimande to intervene.

Earlier this week, Nzimande condemned the violent protests after students set some of the university’s property alight.
