Student doctors demand jobs after studies

Some student health workers in the Eastern Cape wrote a petition to the South African Medical Association Trade Union. They demand that the health department provide jobs after the completion of their studies and community service.
They say medical practitioners who completed their community service in 2021 haven’t been advised about future employment. This is a sample but we are about 200, the number is far greater,” said one of the protesters.
“This is years and years of going through the system being paid for, there is number of years we can, we should be employed here…If they are not gonna give us jobs can they please release us from this bursary.
So that we can find jobs in other provinces, because people have found jobs in other provinces and have been blocked by the province because of this bursary that we have, but we are willing to oblige by it but they are not giving us jobs.
