A Stellenbosh University student has been released on R1,00 bail after appearing in court for rape.
The student is facing two counts of rape and has been suspended while the police continue their investigation.
He’s being ordered to stay away from the victim.
University management says the victim is being supported.
“We became aware of the incident as the university management yesterday of this incident, we immediately acted on making sure we could get the details and support the victim,” said Professor Hester Klopper.
“The victim confirmed this was the case and they supported her on her request to lay the charges at the SAPS. We must thank the police for the way they supported us… today [Thursday] she came forth and said she would like to be supported.
“There is both a criminal case and an internal case with our equity unit.”
