More revelations expected at state capture inquiry

Former government communications head Themba Maseko will continue his testimony at the state capture inquiry.

He said he was fired because he refused to give the Gupta family millions in government advertising.

Maseko testified that the instruction came directly from former president Jacob Zuma.

Maseko says Atul Gupta knew government had a R600-million communications budget in 2010, and Gupta called Maseko pressing for a meeting in Saxonwold.

Later, the Gutpas launched The New Age newspaper and now defunct TV station ANN7.

“He did not give me any specifics other than to say he needed government support to proceed,” said Maseko.

“I asked if he was ever to give me more information was to meet face-to-face and discuss the project.”
