Debt counsellors are warning against lavish spending on Black Friday. Shoppers will cram into stores and some will surf the internet this week, hoping to secure the best deals on offer.

South Africans have adopted the American tradition of Black Friday when retailers spare no expense to promote their specials but consumers have been warned to not be tempted to spend their way into debt.

While Black Friday is still in its infancy in South Africa, it’s a craze that seems to be here to stay and some shops have even spread out what is supposed to be a one-day event, into three or more days.
