Trade union Solidarity is threatening to take the government to court if it reintroduces tighter lockdown regulations.
Solidarity has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma about its intention.
The union cautions that any tightening of the existing lockdown restrictions would be ineffective and devastating to the economy and citizens.
Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation in the next week, after considering recommendations by the health department.
Solidarity believes another drastic lockdown would make people more vulnerable.
This after over two million people lost their jobs in the second quarter of the year.
