Solidarity puts SAA court application on hold

Trade union Solidarity has agreed to put on hold a court application to place South African Airways under business rescue.
The union has been holding talks with Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
The union says it will, however, continue with its court action, if no agreement is reached.
“The turn around strategy for SAA will most likely look a lot like a 2013 Long Term Turnaround strategy because it is an airline and there are certain things that need to be done,” said Connie Mulder, Head of the Solidarity’s Research Institute.
“The problem that we have is that these things have not been done since 2013 and there is no implementation of a turnaround strategy and that is where our frustration as taxpayers comes in.
“When SAA posts an R5-billion loss, it’s not the government taking a loss its the taxpayers paying R5-billion.
“We want action, we want the turnaround strategy to be implemented.”
