Idols SA contestant Siya Motloung leaves Somizi in tears

Day three of this year’s Idols auditions took place with seasoned performer Ringo Madlingozi as the guest judge.

This week’s episode ended on a high note when Potchefstroom-born singer Siya Motloung impressed the judges and made them cry.

Somizi commented on his audition and said he bared his heart and soul in the song.

“I see why the late Dr Sibongile Khumalo agreed to share a stage with you,” he said.

“You are an experience and the best audition that I have experienced in my time here on Idols and no one has ever made me feel the way I am feeling right now at the first phase of an audition, you are a talent my boy and you got a future.”

While Randall who doesn’t always give out compliments easily said he also enjoyed the audition.

“It sounds like the record,” he said.

Joburg-born Monique, who was celebrating her birthday finally allowed Somizi to release the balloons that he has been anxiously waiting to gift someone with.

The 25-year-old singer sang Spotlight by Jennifer Hudson and wowed the judges, well except for Randall who gave her no, but she still got the balloons as she walked away with three nods.

Another highlight of the night Siya Mzizi who came to Idols to overcome his fear after he once fell on stage during a school production at the Joburg Theatre.

The Tsakane-born star who sang Ami Faku’s hit song Ndikhethe Wena blew the judges away, particularly Ringo who was smiling throughout the audition.

He complimented his audition and said that he loved his voice and advised him that next time when he sings, he should open his eyes and connect with the audience.

While Randall said that he loved it that he has control over his voice.

As always there are no’s in between and a lot of those were dished out as some failed even to start their audition, the judges weren’t even sure if it was nerves, or they were there for the wooden mic.

Every now and then on Idols, some are full of surprises, 22-year-old Kat pulled in on roller-skates and impressed the judges from the get-go, even with his singing as Somizi said he was pleasantly surprised after his audition.

As much as the show ended on a high note, it did not start on a high note and it was proof that experience doesn’t count sometimes on Idols as Karabo who has three albums under his belt failed the impress the judges.
