GP provincial task team set up to investigate death of SIU witness
A provincial task team has been set up to investigate the murder of Gauteng health department official Babita Deokaran.
She was gunned down outside her Johannesburg home.
The Special Investigating Unit has confirmed Deokaran was a witness in a probe into PPE purchase irregularities.
She passed away in hospital from her wounds.
During her tenure, Deokaran uncovered corruption and stopped payments of irregular contracts in the department.
Premier David Makhura says they’re taking steps to protect officIals who have become targets of threats and intimidation.
