Rivalry for 22 years, friends in the end. Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. After a lifetime of rivalry, many were surprised when the former Manchester Manager Sir Alex Ferguson presented a farewell gift to Arsene Wenger yesterday just before the match at Old Trafford.
It was definitely one of the veteran coach’s last trips to Old Trafford where his longtime service as a coach for Arsenal was celebrated by the Manchester United camp. Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t see eye to eye in most cases but the former Man U boss said that virtually every game they played against Arsenal, there was a real edge to the match.
They had a few arguments but he always did really respect Wenger for the fantastic job at his club. During his reign, Arsene Wenger did a lot of reforms from player’s eating habits and fitness regimes at arsenal he was ahead of the game and a formidable force in the English Premier League.
A lot of Manchester United fans also cheered for Arsene Wenger. Some said they didn’t want him to leave yet. Asked on crowd response Wenger simply said: “When you are not a danger anymore, people love you!”
Many saw the gift Arsene Wenger received from Sir Alex Ferguson and the message on the gift was as follows:
Presented to Arsene Wenger By Sir Alex Ferguson CBE
And Jose Mourinho On behalf of Manchester United football club,
In recognition of his service to And achievements at Arsenal Football Club 1996-2018
Though the match was intense, Manchester United managed to win 2-1. One would have hoped Arsenal would have won that match for Arsene Wenger’s last trip to Old Trafford to be memorable, but we all know its never easy playing against Manchester United at their home.
We wish Arsene Wenger well in his future endeavours and to Sir Alex and Mourinho, we need United to win the League next season!
