Scores injured in Alberton collision… At 17H17 Wednesday late afternoon, Netcare 911 responded to a collision on the corners of the N12 and Edenvale Road intersection in Rietfontein, Ekhuruleni.
Reports indicate that a truck, bus and several cars were involved in a collision. When medics arrived at the scene, patients were scattered throughout the area surrounding the crash site.
Emergency personnel from Emer-G-Med, Netcare 911 as well as other private and government services assessed at least forty-three patients.
Most had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate, however, four patients had sustained serious injuries. The four critical patients were airlifted to the hospital by helicopter air ambulance.
The rest of the patients were treated on scene by advanced life support paramedics and once stabilised were transported by various ambulances to local hospitals. The relevant authorities will investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Gauteng’s Health Department has confirmed a third case of cholera in Johannesburg. The department says the latest case reported on Tuesday is that of the husband of the first confirmed patient.
He presented symptoms at a health facility and was immediately admitted on Saturday for further tests to be conducted. The department’s spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says the patient is in stable condition.
“This follows two other cases that were reported on 1st and 3rd February in Johannesburg. The department wishes to reiterate the advice for people to visit their nearest health facilities when they present with mild to severe and watery diarrhoea and dehydration symptoms. Furthermore, we urge the public to practice proper hand hygiene which includes thorough washing of hands with water and soap before and after using the bathroom and also when handling food,” says Modiba.
