Schools expected to open on 27 January

During his address, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the National Coronavirus Command Council is in discussions about schools reopening amid the increase in COVID-19 cases.

Ahead of the reopening of schools, unions have stressed that health and safety should be of paramount importance with COVID-19 cases increasing at an alarming rate.

Unions also say the Basic Education Department must use scientific information at their disposal. Learning and teaching this year will once again be very different.
