The latest COVID-19 figures have been released. The Department of Health confirmed on Friday 10 July that South Africa’s cumulative caseload now stands at 250 687.
COVID-19 IN SOUTH AFRICA: FRIDAY 10 JULY 2020
Health Minister Mkhize confirmed that the number of new cases of the novel coronavirus in South Africa reached 250 687, which is an increase of 12 349 new cases since Thursday’s reported figure of 238 339
The statement also highlighted that 118 232 South Africans have recovered from COVID-19. Unfortunately, a further 140 deaths were reported: 24 from Eastern Cape, 11 from KwaZulu Natal, 39 from Gauteng and 66 from Western Cape.
This brings the total deaths to 3 860. The breakdown per province can be found below. As of 10 July, the recovery rate is 47.2%.

Gauteng is the country’s epicentre with 87,033 deaths, of which 5,487 were reported in the past 24-hour cycle. The Western Cape has 76,067 infections, the Eastern Cape has 46,284 and KwaZulu-Natal has 21,386.
Of the new deaths, 66 were from the Western Cape, 39 in Gauteng, 24 in the Eastern Cape and 11 in KwaZulu-Natal.
This means that the Western Cape has recorded a total of 2,295 fatalities, the Eastern Cape has had 634, Gauteng has 554 and KwaZulu-Natal 260.
TESTS AND SCREENING
As of today, a total of 2 057 232 tests have been conducted, of which 56 663 were done in the last 24 hours. The total number of tests conducted in the private sector stands at 1 128 553, of which 40 980 were done in the last 24 hours.
In addition, 928 679 tests were conducted in the public sector, with 15 683 being done within the last 24 hours.
