SARS to hire 370 new employees

SARS is looking for 370 new employees. It’s advertising for senior positions that will ensure wealthy South Africans pay their taxes. The revenue collector is also looking to improve its IT and investigation skills.

In this year’s budget speech, SARS was given an extra R3-billion to increase and improve its capabilities.

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni said SARS will establish a dedicated unit to improve compliance of wealthy taxpayers, as well as to boost the use of data analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities. Some of the positions SARS is looking to fill include a chief data scientist and a chief technology and innovation officer.

SARS is also looking for 200 young graduates in the tax and legal fields, as well as criminal investigators.
