Sars Tax season kicks off

The 2023 Tax Season officially started on Friday but the South African Revenue Service has already been issuing auto-assessment notices to taxpayers since the beginning of the month. As the season gets going, individuals and businesses must be equipped to comply with fresh regulations and rules.

Non-provisional taxpayers in South Africa enjoy uncomplicated tax affairs stemming from a standard monthly salary, exempting them from provisional tax payments.

Provisional taxpayers face more intricate tax circumstances and must fulfill estimated tax payments throughout the tax year. This typically arises from their taxable income not being derived from just one employment source.

SARS commissioner Edward Kieswetter says if taxpayers file correctly and do not provide misleading information, they will get their tax returns within 72 hours. Next week, we invite taxpayers who want to submit a return to do so. We are ready and obviously
