Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked will stream in virtual reality

Samsung fans can watch the tech giant’s next Galaxy Unpacked event in virtual reality, Engadget reported. The tech giant has recreated its flagship New York store location within Decentraland’s virtual reality (VR) platform. VR enthusiasts can view the event at 837X. Samsung’s renewed interest in the metaverse is somewhat unexpected, as Samsung announced that it was discontinuing its VR line — Gear VR — in December 2021.

According to Engadget, Samsung doesn’t plan on replacing the Gear VR line. The tech giant’s Gear VR products allowed supported Samsung Galaxy smartphones to transform into virtual reality headsets.

This offered a cheaper entry-point into virtual reality for those who already had phones with the necessary display capabilities and processing power.

Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event will not be the first time the company does a VR presentation. At the 2016 Mobile World Conference (MWC), the tech giant provided all attendees with a VR headset to view its presentation.

Thousands of people all experienced a single virtual reality simulation simultaneously. Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is scheduled for 9 February at 17:00. The tech giant’s next flagship smartphone range — the Galaxy S22 line — is expected to launch at the event.
