At 06H35 Friday morning Netcare 911, NSRI Station 5 and a team from the South African Air Force 15 Squadron in Durban responded to reports of an adult male sailor who has fallen ill while at sea.
The patient an adult male was safely evacuated off a crude oil tanker, six nautical miles off-shore of the Port of Durban.
The patient was airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition for further medical treatment.
The Airborne Sea Rescue operation was initiated Thursday night to be carried out at first light Friday morning.
