One million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will be rolled out this January. This was announced by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize a short while ago.

Mkhize says the vaccine is coming from India. A further 500,000 vaccines will be received in February.

According to Mkhize, the department has been working with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) since Wednesday to fine-tune and align all the regulatory processes to ensure that there are no unnecessary delays or regulatory impediments to activate the rollout.

“We are all happy this vaccine has been approved and is being rolled out in other countries,” Mkhize said.
