The South African Post Office has warned that phishing scams are on the rise, as fraudsters target unsuspecting consumers.
The post office said fraudulent SMSes and emails are being sent to the people, asking them to update their delivery addresses within 24 hours to avoid the loss or return of their parcels.
The alleged scammers are believed to be after personal information.
The post office said the scam provides a link telling people to click on it in order to change their delivery addresses.
According to the state-owned company, customers are being asked to pay an amount of money in order to release their packages or parcels for delivery.
It is urging people not to send their bank details to unknown sources.
The post office also says it’s not protocol to ask consumers to update their details online.
The company said it only sends an SMS or collection alert via post notifying consumers to make collections.
