SA observes National Day of Prayer amid COVID-19

President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared Sunday a national day of prayer. He is urging religious leaders and the public to pray for the battle against COVID-19. On Tuesday, Ramaphosa announced that places of worship may reopen subject to strict restrictions under level three of the lockdown.

“On this day, wherever we may be, I call upon you to turn your thoughts to all who have been affected by this pandemic,” the President said.

Churches, temples, mosques, synagogues, and other recognised places of worship will resume services with a maximum amount of 50 people or less depending on the space available. Ramaphosa advised that social distancing will have to be observed and that face-masks will have to be worn by all congregants. In other news – Angie Motshekga to provide an update on reopening of schools today

Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, will brief the media to provide an update on the readiness for the reopening of schools on Sunday at 6pm. According to the Western Cape Teachers’ Forum, Motshekga is due to make an announcement on a new date for schools reopening after meeting with unions, MECs, HODs and governing bodies associations. This comes after strong opposition from various teacher unions and bodies. Read more
