Reports from overseas suggest that we are not only about to see a black 007 but a black and female one at that …and we are thrilled to finally be seeing progress and diversity in one of the world’s most famous action movie franchises!
The idea of a female James – or Jane – Bond has been touted for some time, but if MGM studios is still thinking of adding a few more names to the shortlist, we have compiled a selection of South Africa’s baddest, butt-kicking beauties who could do the job. Here are a few candidates for the role of 007 in one of the next films.
DJ Zinhle
DJ Zinhle already rocks a pantsuit like an international spy, and we could picture her sipping on a martini (shaken, not stirred) in an expensive bar at some exotic location.
Oh, and she’s dealt with highbrow accused criminals in her life already (*cough*) so who’s to say she couldn’t do it on screen?
Pearl Thusi
If DJ Zinhle isn’t your cup of tea, then perhaps you’d consider her best friend, Pearl Thusi, who already has experience in action films.

Lorcia Cooper
Lorcia has played some of Mzansi’s most sinister characters and although she cleans up as well as anybody on this list, she would bring a much-needed toughness to the role of 007.

Shashi Naidoo
Shashi Naidoo is a wild card choice but the elegance and class with which she carries herself would suit the role of a female James Bond character.
She could easily sweet talk her way into favours when beyond borders, and looks like she’d be the perfect candidate for some of the film’s beauty shots.
Khanyi Mbau
If you’re look for a fearless and fantastic femme fatale, then you’ve found her!
Khanyi takes no prisoners in real life; do you really think she would waste any time suffering fools in a Bond film?
The actress also has a scowl that few can match and we see her sending shivers down the spines of the villains.
Moozlie
Nomuzi Mabena (save your Mabena jokes please) would bring a flashy and eclectic element to the Bond films.
Just as Christian Bale’s Batman brought a new dimension to the comic hero, Nomuzi’s 007 could see the character going in a completely new direction.
