SA COVID-19 death toll exceeds 14 000


The health department reported 47 COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours.

This takes the total death toll to 14,028.

Sixteen patients died in Gauteng, 11 in Mpumalanga, seven each in the Eastern and Western Cape and three each in the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.

Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State have the most active cases.

The number of new cases in the country increased by 2,505 in the last 24 hours.

South Africa now has a cumulative total of 625,056 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The recovery rate remains at 86 percent.

The number of tests done is 3,674,872 with 21,902 new tests.
