List of SA celebrities who died in 2021

Several media personalities and celebrities in South Africa’s entertainment industry died in the year 2021.

In the list of celebrity deaths are Actors, Musicians, Film Makers, Medical Experts, and other influential people.

Chief among causes of these deaths is Covid-19 which has wreaked havoc worldwide.

Mzansi will definitely miss these stars. Their influence on fans and the public alike will be dearly missed.

Here is the list of celebrity deaths in 2021:

Menzi Ngubane

Menzi Ngubane

Popularly known as Sbusiso Dhlomo, a role that he played in the television show, Generations, Menzi Ngubane was regarded as one of the most well-known actors in Mzansi. He also played Judas in the popular SABC 1 telenovela Isibaya.

Menzi was unable to appear in the Queen Season 5 in 2020 due to illness, much to the dismay of his fans. According to the doctors, Ngubane had suffered kidney failure in 2012, and surgery was done on him the following year. In March 2021, he passed away at the age of 56, leaving a wife and two children to mourn his passing.

Aaron Arthur Ferguson

Shona Ferguson

Aaron Arthur Ferguson, professionally known as Shona Ferguson, was a Botswana-born actor who found fame in South Africa. Ferguson was the executive producer and co-founder of Ferguson Films, alongside his wife, Connie Ferguson.

He was a famous actor, producer, and director. Ferguson succumbed to a Covid-19-related illness. He was laid to rest on August 4th in a privately held ceremony.

Luzuko Nteleko

Luzuko Nteleko

Luzuko Nteleko was a South African actor and singer. He appeared in ‘About Him’ an LGBTQ US drama series in which US star Milan Christopher was starring. Nteleko is another celebrity that passed away in June 2021. According to Nteleko’s family, Luzuko had been battling cancer for two years or so. Luzuko died on June 21, 2021.

Sindi van Zyl

Dr Sindi Van Zyl

Sindi van Zyl was a well-known medical doctor and a host of a Kaya FM radio show. “People’s Doctor” as she was popularly known died on April 10, 2021. Sindi succumbed to Covid-19 related illness.

Noxolo Maqashalala

Noxolo Noxee Maqashalala

Noxolo was a household name in the entertainment industry in South Africa. She was one of the most well-known soapie actors on the country’s television.

Maqashalala appeared in the SABC 1 shows Generations, Binnelanders, Dream World and Intersexions, the SABC 2 show Gauteng Maboneng, and e.tv’s Rhythm City, Easy Money, Mzansi Love and The Kingdom – uKhakhayi.

Noxolo was found dead in her Johannesburg home on March 12, 2021.

Lesego Semenya

Lesego Semenya, known as LesDaChef, was a South African chef, media personality, and writer. He died following complications related to Covid-19. Semenya had tested positive for Covid-19 after going to his doctor with a suspect throat infection. He was born on 11 April 1982 and died at the age of 39.

Tsepo Tshola

Tsepo Tshola

Tsepo Tshola was a legendary South African singer who died recently. Tshepo was famous for his baritone and jazz music. Sixty-seven-year-old Tsepo Tshola lost the fight to COVID-19 on 15th July 2021. The fallen legend was buried at the Heroes Acre in Thaba Bosiu in Lesotho on Friday, 30th July 2021.

Nokuzola Mlengana

Nokuzola Mlengana

Sis Ouma, as she was popularly known for her role on Skeem Saam, was a vivacious actor who dawned Mzansi TV screen. Mlengana is also on the list of celebrities who died in the year 2021.

The mother of 3 succumbed to pneumonia on July 12, 2021.

Steve Kekana

Sixty-two-year-old Tebogo Steve Kekana was a famous South African singer and songwriter who started his career in the 1980s. He lost his sight at a tender age and always mesmerized Mzansi by how talented he was despite his disability. Steve Kekana succumbed to Covid-19 on July 1, 2021.

Jonas Gwangwa

Jonas Gwangwa

Gwangwa was a South African jazz music icon, he passed away on Saturday, 23rd January 2021, after struggling with health complications for two years. He used his talent to fight the apartheid government for decades.

Kabelo Molopyane

Kabelo'KB' Molopyane

Kabelo Molopyane is on the list of the latest celebrity deaths in 2021. Motsweding FM’s DJ KB Molopyane was 46 years old when he died. The ‘Ragoga Gee’ breakfast show host passed away on Sunday morning, 17th January 2021. Kabelo was excellent at entertaining people in the Setswana language.

Molopyane started working for Motsweding FM in 2002, and people loved him throughout the 19 years he hosted the morning show.

In other news – Actress Nozuko Ntshangase attempted suicide; 3 times

Nozuko Ntshangase has opened up about her suicide attempts. The Diep City actress recently made a YouTube video where she said she tried to take her own life three times.
