Richards Bay Minerals resumes operations

Mining giant Richards Bay Minerals in KwaZulu-Natal has resumed operations almost a month after shutting down. The company was closed after a group of armed men attacked workers en route to and leaving work.

The company employs over 5,000 workers and is one of the major contributors to tax in the province. Managing director, Werner Duvenhage stated the company is happy to resume business and estimated the mine would be fully operational by early in the new year.

Duvenhage said the loss of revenue to the business would still need to be quantified. He stated due to interventions from government departments, the company is confident they will be able to return to safe operations for workers.
