The Restaurant Association of SA says its database has dropped to 9,000 outlets from more than 23,400. It is now calling for the cabinet to end restrictions on eateries.
It believes thousands of restaurants across the country have closed their doors for good, leaving tens of thousands jobless. According to its survey 1,100 restaurants closed in recent months.
RASA also says alcohol sales restrictions also cut into profit margins.
