Real Madrid sensation Gareth Bale has secretly married his childhood sweetheart in a hush-hush ceremony which snubbed his bride’s devastated grandparents.
John and Eva McMurray, who helped raise newlywed Emma Rhys-Jones, are reeling after they were missed off the 60-strong guest list for the couple’s wedding on the exclusive Spanish island of Tagomago off Ibiza.
It comes amid claims that the Welsh international is trying to airbrush his in-laws from their lives following a spell of ‘family turmoil’ which last year forced the pair to postpone their nuptials. Rhys-Jones’s grandparents – both in their eighties – only heard about the private wedding 10 days after the ceremony.
Mr McMurray, a retired decorator, said: ‘I’m totally gutted, I can’t believe what they’ve done.
‘We knew the wedding was coming up and of course we were expecting an invite.
A week-long stay at the property – offered as an auction prize at a Tory Black and White Ball fundraiser – went for £220,000 four years ago.
Before travelling to Majorca, Bale is believed to have celebrated his stag do during a Costa del Sol golfing holiday with several Brit pals.
He was spotted at an exclusive golf club in Marbella and another in nearby Sotogrande close to Gibraltar in the run-up to his wedding.
The Sun on Sunday revealed last July how Bale and his then-fiancee had called off their wedding at an Italian castle so Emma could heal a rift with her former jailbird father Martin.
He was among the relatives “uninvited” to the wedding after a case with cash, cocaine and watches went missing from her elderly grandparents’ home. Cars belonging to her aunts were also torched in Flint, North Wales.
