Free State family shot dead in random attack

Four family members who lived in New Stands, in the Thabong area in the Free State, were shot dead on Monday night.

The incident has perplexed police, who said they were now looking for four unknown men said to have fired shots into the family’s home.

Police said on Monday night, four armed suspects entered the family’s home and fired random shots at them without warning.

Two women aged 59 and 31, a 23-year-old man and a 10-year-old girl were killed.

Two young boys, aged 6 and 9, managed to escape the house, and promptly alerted the family’s neighbours.

Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said the motive for the “gruesome killings” was not yet known, but a manhunt had been launched to trace the suspects.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrests of the suspects is urged to contact Detective Constable Keke Sithole of Thabong Serious and Violent Crime at 060-985-9276, or call Crime Stop at 08600-10111. Informants can also send information via the MySAPS application.
