
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says each quarantine facility will have strict security measures backed up by the military. Government is close to finding quarantine facilities for South Africans who will be repatriated from Wuhan. The minister says they are consulting with the hospitality industry, looking at hotels, resorts and game reserves.
Up to 151 South Africans will have to be quarantined there for 21 days. Mkhize says none of the affected individuals has been diagnosed with the virus. Mkhize has also cautioned against believing every piece of coronavirus information on social media. Stop spreading fake news that either ridicule the efforts of the health workers or that frighten people…” Mkhize said.
Mkhize stated that the public will be informed on all relevant developments and that all South Africans should be prepared and protect themselves. South Africa confirmed the third case of COVID-19 on Sunday.
According to the Health Department, a 39-year-old woman was in direct contact with the first known case of a man in KwaZulu-Natal. She was admitted to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Gauteng for quarantine and treatment. The woman was part of a group of 10 that had travelled to Italy. The first patient and his wife were also part of the group.
