Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane on Friday addressed SARS deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay’s payout.
She said her office received an anonymous complaint about Pillay. Pillay approached the Labour Court to have his suspension overturned.
Mkhwebane announced that Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan — who was SARS Commissioner at the time — wrongly approved Pillay’s package.
She found that Pillay was not entitled to early retirement with full pension benefits.
