Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to appear before SCOPA

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan is expected in Parliament on Wednesday. The Standing Committee on Public Accounts wants to hear about allegations of corruption at Eskom. Last week, MPs grilled law enforcement agencies about their role in combating crime at Eskom.

The utility’s board has also appeared before SCOPA. Eskom’s meanwhile categorically denied the national electricity grid faces imminent collapse.

It says it’s concerned over social media posts claiming the country will soon experience a national blackout. It’s now assuring South Africans there are measures to avoid a total collapse. Despite indefinite Stage 6 power cuts, the utility says there’s a very low risk of grid collapse.
