Klawer murder-accused to undergo psychiatric evaluation

Murder-accused Daniel Smit has been referred to Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital for a mental evaluation.
Smit confessed to murdering 13-year-old Jerobijin van Wyk in the small town of Klawer in the Western Cape earlier this year.

He also says he killed several other people. A psychologist says he wants Smit to be evaluated for personality disorder, and specifically for psychopathy to be determined.

Violent scenes played out outside the Klawer magistrate’s court where Smit appeared on Tuesday when the community clashed with police.

The case has been postponed to 27 June for further investigation.
