Prophet Bushiri promises help to families killed and injured in stampede

Prophet Bushiri promises help to families killed and injured in stampede. Three people lost their lives at the weekend. Many remained in hospital after a sudden stampede at the Tshwane Events Centre on Friday.

The church’s lawyer says people panicked when they were caught in a thunderstorm.
Pastor Shepherd Bushiri and his church will help the families of those killed and injured during a stampede at the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church in Pretoria.

According to ECG lawyer Terrance Baloyi, the commotion was caused by sudden thunderstorms, which led to congregants running for cover.

“People were trying to run away from the rain. It started suddenly and no one had an umbrella,” he said. Three women died and about 17 people were injured in the chaos, Baloyi said.

Prophet Bushiri“We are doing our best to assist. We are providing accommodation to those that were injured after being discharged from hospital and we give them food. We are ready to assist the families of those who have died. The church is not doing well but we are trying our best under the circumstances,” Baloyi said.

Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said an inquest docket was opened. “Anyone with a missing person believed to have attended the service must contact the Pretoria West police station,” said Selepe.

Tshwane west cluster commander Major-General Daniel Mthombeni has urged the public to remain cautious as they celebrate the new year. “We offer condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.”
