Presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko release statement denying tender corruption

Presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko and her husband Madzikane have released a statement, following controversy around the awarding of a COVID-19 procurement tender.

AmaBhaca King Madzikane II Thandisizwe Diko was reportedly awarded two tenders amounting to R125-million for the supply of personal protective equipment.

The Dikos expressed their support for the government’s efforts to crack down on the misuse of funds meant to support the battle against COVID-19 in their statement.

They said they also understand the public’s mistrust due to years of cronyism in the state sector.

The family reaffirmed that there was no corruption in the awarding of a contract to Royal Bhaca Projects, and they’ve sought to cancel the contract.

They have reiterated they received no funds in respect of the contract.

The couple has expressed the long-standing relationship they have with Health MEC Bandile Masuku’s family, and say their business links predated this event.

Khusela Diko took voluntary leave from her position as presidential spokesperson earlier this week.
