President Ramaphosa – SA transitioning to renewable energy

President Cyril Ramaphosa has given the thumbs up to the self-generation of energy in South Africa. Ramaphosa says the country has started transitioning into the use of renewable energy and in time SA will move away from using coal.

“We are still at 89% reliant on coal but we have started our journey on renewables. As we move forward more renewables will play a key role in the economy.”

This after discussions on how Germany no longer uses coal-powered stations to generate electricity.

Ramaphosa and German Chancellor Angela Merkel addressed the media at the Union Buildings on Thursday.

Merkel is optimistic that working together with South Africa promises a bright future for both countries.

“South Africa has always taken a string stance on multilateralism we value this very highly. We are making more of an effort on the administrative front to see to it that loans can be given easily to promote investment.”

Merkel has been speaking at the Union Buildings during the start of her state visit to the country.
