The Gauteng head of the SIU, Sifiso Kunene, has been placed on precautionary suspension.
This is to give him time to answer to the charges brought against him. Kunene appeared in the Durban specialised commercial crime court at the end of October, for fraud.
The charges against him relate to a Road Accident Fund claim he allegedly made on behalf of a complainant. This was before he worked for the Special Investigating Unit.
