Covid-19 death toll now 86 in SA with 4,361 positive infections

South Africa’s coronavirus death toll has risen to 86. On Saturday night, the Department of Health announced that seven more people have died of COVID-19 in the country. The new deaths are from the Eastern Cape (4), Western Cape (2) and Limpopo (1). The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 4, 361.

The Western Cape remains the epicentre with more infections and deaths. With 1,514 infections, it leads followed by Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal with 1,304 and 847 respectively.

This week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a new coronavirus unemployment grant of R350 a month for the next six months until October. The special Social Relief of Distress grant will go to those who are unemployed and do not receive any other social grant or UIF payment.
